UA newbie trail runner ranks 4th on national competition
Rodela Aros, 3rd year AB Political Science student of University of Antique, ranked 4th place in the 12km Trail Run Women’s Open Category during the Timberland Mountain Marathon (TMM) national competition, at Timberland Heights, San Mateo, Rizal, April 16, 2023.
Specializing in middle distance events in athletics, the newbie trail runner is exploring new opportunities as she aims to be part of the 2024 Philippine Trail Running Association (Philtra) National Team through gathering ranking points on PhilTRA qualifying events.
According to Aros, she takes inspiration from her family on working hard and giving her best in different opportunities despite how challenging the life that her family is facing.
“My father trained me well on this sport. He used to chase us when he was drunk and I would run as fast as I could. Haha, funny as it seems but I will continue to play this sport as I get unlimited training from him.”
Aros recently nabbed 2nd place during the Kinaraya Madjaas Mountain Marathon (KMMM) 15km women’s category last March 25 in Culasi, Antique and will compete on ALTRA 50: Banaue Mountain Ultra 10km event on May 7, 2023 in Banaue, Ifugao. The Top 10 athletes at the end of the series will qualify for Philtra Championships where they can earn their final ranking points.
Aros advised her fellow athletes to never stop dreaming saying, “…padayon lang kita, indi kita mag give up. Tiisun naton tanan nga hirap sa training kay amo gid ra ang ginaumpisahan. Pakumbaba lang pirme, tiwala sa sarili kag be proud sa mga achievement. Sarig lang sa Ginuo kay maabot gid ang gina handom.” (Let us continue thriving and don’t give up. Endure the difficulties during the training because that is where everything starts. Always be humble, trust in yourself and be proud of your achievements. Trust the Lord because in due time you will eventually reach your aspirations.)/SD-IAP
