University of Antique, led by Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr., launched the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” pursuant to Municipal Ordinance No. 009-2020 or the Clean and Green Program and Backyard Food Gardening Ordinance of the Municipality of Sibalom, at the Main Campus today, June 15, 2024.
The activity that signifies the institution’s collaborative effort with the Municipality of Sibalom in the observance of the Philippine Environment Month this June was participated by the UA Executive Committee, Faculty, Staff, and students.
According to Dr. Crespo, the variety of vegetables in the garden may become the source of food for students who have no extra allowance to buy viand. If products are abundant the president also targets to sell them to other students at a much cheaper price.
“We would like to prove nga in a place where there is a lot of buildings, pwede man gyapon kita ka pananom ka laswa. Bukot lng ja kuon nga laswa laswa lng para manami but we must utilize it para makahelp sa mga students,” he added.
Each college and office within the university is expected to plant and grow their own vegetable garden to foster a culture of environmental stewardship in the whole community.
