The identification of research thrusts and priorities involve three major phases, to wit: (a) Environmental Scanning, (b) Priorities Setting, and (c) Criteria Use in identification and prioritization of Research projects.
Environmental scanning activity considers the internal environment and external factors that affect the institution’s performance. The internal environment factors are: institutional capacity, structure, support systems (financial and administrative) and organizational management. The environmental external factors are focused on the political and national policies, laws and procedures of the government as well as the development programs of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Priorities setting are considered on the national and regional thrusts and mandates. It also takes into account the information and feedback from various agencies such as national, regional, local government units and other funding agencies.
