To bolster readiness and ensure swift response to hazards and emergencies, the University of Antique (UA) conducted the Operation Luwas – Earthquake and Fire Drill, today, December 3, 2024.

Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr., UA President and Emergency Director, emphasized that one of the biggest earthquakes in the country, Lady Caycay in 1948, happened in the Island of Panay, thus drills are essential to heighten the Kasubay community’s preparedness and make them more familiar with the protocol.

The academe was assisted by the Personnel from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and Philippine National Police (PNP) who also observed and gave feedback on how the University could improve its Risk Reduction Management System.

The Earthquake and Fire Drill is also in compliance with Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI (CHEDRO 6) Memorandum No. 091 Series of 2018 and RA 10121, “An Act Strengthening the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System.”
