Championing creativity, talent, and innovation, the Fashion Design and Apparel Technology (FDAT) instructors and students from the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) and Events Management Course of the College of Business and Accountancy (CBA) conducted the “Shada kag Padayaw” showcasing craftsmanship and creations of fashion design students, held at the University of Antique (UA) Center Gate on June 28, 2024.

“This year, we focused on the theme: Sining ng Terno, where designers drew inspiration from the traditional Filipino costume that symbolizes the historical significance and cultural legacy of our country.” Mr. Reniel A. Bacera, Local Artist and Instructor of CIT, stated in his speech.

Models confidently took the runway donning their traditional and modern Filipiniana and Barong Terno (matching set of clothes made of the same fabric) which were also crafted by them and some, by other designers.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pablo S. Crespo, Jr., University President, on his inspirational message, expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the instructors and organizers of the event that continuously serves as a venue for students to express their skills and learnings.

“What you are doing tonight is actually an example of Outcomes-Based Education – that students should be given the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in the classroom – that learning in the classroom should not only be theory-based or theoretical… This is the kind of education that we must be doing in the University of Antique.”

He also acknowledged the guests consisting of Fashion designers and icons in the province.

“Indeed, your presence will inspire our students to perform, and who knows…the next top model of the Philippines will come from the University of Antique”, he further stated.

This annual fashion event also aimed to pay homage to the age-old workmanship while presenting modern takes that emphasizes the Terno’s adaptability and significance in today’s fashion.

The celebration was joined by Prof. Shecky Mae Villavert, Director for External Affairs, Dr. Ruzel Espino-Paller, Director of the Student Welfare Unit, Mr. Risty Clent Aquito, Administrative Officer IV of the Quality Assurance Unit, designers, fashion icons, and invited guests from outside the university.
