Standing firm with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in revitalizing the coconut industry and unlocking its untapped potentials, @University of Antique – Hamtic Campus (UA-HC) hosted this year’s Coconut Week Celebration in line with the National Coconut Month, at UA-HC’s Convention Hall, last August 28, 2024.

A total of 143 premium coconut species were planted at Hamtic Campus during the National Synchronous Coconut Tree planting and 100 pieces were awarded to Coconut Scholars and Coconut Farmers Association.

According to Prof. Glenda Mabaquiao, Campus Director of UA-HC, there is also an ongoing collaboration between PCA and UA for the coconut seed banking where the coconut seeds are grown in clonal nursery for distribution to the beneficiaries of the PCA to augment the coconut production of farmers in support to the Coco Oil Mill which will be established in Funda, Hamtic.

“This partnership is vital to boost the production and productivity of coconut as one of the major commodities that supports the Philippine economy,” she further stated.

Also present during the celebration were Vice Governor Edgar D. Denosta, representative from the office of the Congressman, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members Karmila Rose Dimamay and Jessielito Sumande, PDRRMO Head Mr. Broderick Train, Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) Partner Agencies, UA officers and employees, Local Government Units, Barangay Officials, Coconut Federation of Antique, Department of Agriculture, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation Provincial Extension Office Antique, Coconut Farmers, and Coconut Scholars.
