Indigenous Peoples (IPs) in the Philippines are an integral part of our nation’s rich culture and identity. From the Igorots of Cordillera to the Lumads in Mindanao, Indigenous groups have long been honored and celebrated since the passing of Republic Act No. 10689, otherwise known as “an Act declaring August 9 as National Indigenous Peoples Day and mandating the meaningful observance thereof” in 2016 by the then Senator, Paolo Benigno “Bam” A. Aquino IV.
May this annual celebration serve as a yearly opportunity to celebrate the IPs’ continued participation, valuable role and contribution in the society. Likewise, us in the University, may serve as torchbearers of a respectful, inclusive, and bias-free community despite our diversity.
Mabuhay ang ating mga IP!
