Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr., University President, urged every Kasubay to be educated as he reiterated Apolinario Mabini’s words that the real thing that can assure Filipinos’ independence is education, during the celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day, at Tiripunan (formerly known as Traditional Knowledge Center), today, June 12, 2024.
“…Independence from poverty, independence from oppression – if you know your rights through education, you could fight for your right,” he further stated addressing the students, faculty, staff, and members of the Executive Committee present at the venue.
Dr. Crespo also revealed that this year’s celebration is more meaningful because a Kasubay, alumnus of UA, serves as the Captain of BRP Lapu-Lapu, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources’ (BFAR) ship, which together with the Philippine Coast Guard’s (PCG) ship was harassed by China Coast Guard during a mission to Rozul Reef, inside the Philippine Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
“If we have that Kasubay who bravely faced the danger just to protect what is our own, what about us?”
Dr. Jelyn O. Alentajan, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, stated that every Kasubay is called to uphold and double the 12 gains of freedom – nationalism, patriotism, heroism, valor, sacrifice, faith, loyalty, love, service, wisdom, novelty, and commitment.
“Kabay pa nga ma-declare naton nga we are truly free and empowered to pursue the development and progress of our beloved country, the Philippines,” VP Alentajan added.
Moreover, Dr. Crespo talked about the West Philippine Sea (WPS), which was followed by the presentation from different student performers who represented the university at the Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges (RASUC) VI Culture and Arts Festival last March 2024.
