This two-day activity, participated by the different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Western Visayas, aims to equip and capacitate the SUCs’ technology transfer team and researchers on the procedure of understanding the contents of TLA as well as the key components covering the financial, technical, legal, and socio-economic aspects of these technologies.

Each participating SUC is composed of legal experts and offices handling Intellectual Property Management, Innovation Promotion, and Technology Transfer.

Engr. Aldrex L. Aviso, Intellectual Property Rights Specialist, Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) served as the resource speaker for the morning session, where he tackled about the basics of Technology Licensing, Key Components of TLAs, and the Key Terms and provisions in a licensing agreement.

“Commercialize your work! Profit from it!”, he stressed.

Furthermore, Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, CESO II, Regional Director of DOST VI, expressed his appreciation to UA for its partnership and commitment to this initiative.

“As we embark on this journey, it is important to understand the essence of a TLA. The goal here is to strengthen our capacity, your capacity in drafting effective Technology Licensing Agreements…this is very crucial for ensuring that locally-developed technologies funded by taxpayers’ money are successfully negotiated and commercialized”, he further stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Pablo S. Crespo, Jr., UA President on his opening remarks, professed how happy he was seeing the different SUCs gather, forge relationships, and help each other especially if an institution needs assistance.

This activity will continue with the discussion on Intellectual Property Laws and how they relate to TLAs, and the drafting of clear and comprehensive agreements with Ms. Remedios G. Cruz, IPOPHL’s Intellectual Property Rights Specialist III as the resource speaker.
