University of Antique in coordination with the Antique Provincial Department of Health Office sets a new record in Western Visayas with the greatest number of participants with estimated 3,600 students, on the Mass Hands-Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training, February 14.

Dr. Romel Garganera, Director of Antique Provincial Department of Health Office, stated that DOH previously has the record of over 2,600 participants last 2019. He added that with the current record that UA has, the academe truly accomplished something that is worth echoing to the whole Region as it is also an accomplishment for Western Visayas.

“This is quite remarkable sa isa ka eskwelahan kay te there were times nga kung maghambal ta nga eskwelahan purely educational lang ang ginatudlo but I think that this University really wants to make a holistic education for everyone,” Dr. Garganera further stated.

The activity is also part of the quest to promote a culture of safety and resilience anchored to the new vison of the academe which is to build sustainable and resilient communities.

Dr. Pablo S. Crespo Jr., University President, stated that more than just getting the record, this activity is an opportunity for Kasubays to learn how to save someone’s heart in an instance where CPR is needed to be done.

“We plan to make it yearly. In fact, on the later part of the year, we will do similar activities in Hamtic, Tibiao, and the rest of the campuses of the University of Antique,” Dr. Crespo added.

Mr. Broderick G. Train, Head of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDDRMO) Antique, also congratulated the academe saying that the Mass CPR initiated by UA is an endeavor worth replicating especially that it pertains to saving lives.

To accommodate the number of participants, the Mass Hands-only CPR was held simultaneously at the University Oval, Paghi-usa Hall, and Traditional Knowledge Center (Covered Court).

Also in attendance during the event were representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and Provincial Health Office./IU
