University of Antique campuses clash during the sambUwA 2023
University of Antique Main Campus spearheaded Sambuwa 2023 as one of the highlights during the 69th Foundation day of the university, January 19-20, 2023.
Sambuwa, a Hiligaynon term which means “match” in English is this year’s intercampus friendship games; the clash among the institution’s champions as the campuses best athletes compete in different tournaments.
UA Main Campus, Tario-Lim Memorial Campus, and Hamtic Campus competed in various sporting events during the two-day inter-campus games. Excited and ready to compete, the thousands in attendance screamed their lungs out and raised their respective campus banners high.
This year’s theme was: “Strong, Tall and Resilient UA” and indeed, the various campuses marched with pride and hoisted their banners during the ceremony followed by urn-lighting ceremony led by Vence Ian Salvaleon, athletics gold medalist during the 2020 Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (RSCUAA).
Kasubay athletes competed in 11 different sports headlined by basketball, volleyball, boxing, badminton, sepak takraw and many more. The games also served as the screening of athletes who would represent the university in the upcoming RSCUAA.
The sambUwA is considered as UA’s big sports event after two years of limited activities due to the pandemic. Traditionally, intramural meets are held at the campus with many athletes and students from different campuses in the ua system in attendance. For this school year however, to revive sportsmanship yet ensure that safety protocols are complied with, the campuses conducted their intramural meets separately and sent only their selected athletes.
The inter-campus friendship games aims to fortify connections and bring the whole UA system together to work towards the same objective./SD-IAP
