
The University of Antique through representatives from the College of Maritime Studies, participated in the STCW Forum: Symposium on Maritime Education and Training (MET) which is a product of collaboration between the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU), at The Manila Prince Hotel, November 8, 2024.
With the aim to provide academic insights and innovative ideas to improve the Maritime Education and Training curricula and competence of the teaching force of the different Maritime Higher Education Institutions all over the world, the forum served as a venue for invited international speakers to share their expertise through the following topics: Leveraging Technology for Future-Ready Maritime Workforce, Immersive Technologies to Augment Onboard Training of Seafarers, Effective Use of Simulators, Upgrading Digital Skills of Maritime Education and Training (MET) Faculty, Upskilling the Instructors and Assessors of Future Seafarers, Critical Thinking Skills for Future Maritime Workforce and MET Institutions, Managing Seafarer’s Education and Training in line with the Comprehensive Review of the STCW Convention, and Improving the Curriculum and Enhancing Professional Competence in Maritime Higher Education Institutions.
Captain Salvador G. Santiago, III, 2nd Engineer Jersam M. Vicente, and Ms. Shecky Mae R. Villavert, Director for External Affairs Unit and On-Board Training (OBT) Liaison Officer, represented UA during the forum which gathered representatives from different Maritime Colleges and Universities in the country.
