
To develop a sustainable waste management system within the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – San Jose District, University of Antique in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conducted a Training on Solid Waste Management Gardening Techniques Among Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), last February 1, 2025.
Twenty (20) PDLs were taught regarding the principles of solid waste management, and provided with hands-on activities on waste management strategies such as waste segregation, composting, and recycling, within the jail setting which is essential to avoid health risks, unsanitary living conditions, and environmental harm.
Dr. Jennel Orantes, who served as the Resource Speaker, also shared gardening techniques, methods, and tips which could be ideal in the setting like BJMP facility.
