The University of Antique Laboratory High School (UA-LHS) Senior Scouts Outfit No. 0-007 held a “Huling Parangal sa Pambansang Watawat ng Pilipinas: A Proper Flag Disposal Ceremony” where five worn-out Philippine flags were burned as part of the post celebration of the country’s Independence Day, at the University Oval, today, June 14.

In compliance with Section 14 of Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, the scouts led the burning ceremony where patriotic songs were simultaneously played, then the ashes were transferred to a pot which was then buried at the grounds of the university, a way of honoring the symbol of the nation’s freedom.

Prior to the ceremonial disposal of flags, LHS Scouts also conducted a symposium on the Philippine National Flag specifically on the Heraldic Flag Code of the Philippines with Mr. Jazon D. Montilla, Wood Badge Holder and Trainer.

Dr. Runato A. Basañes, Executive Director for Student Affairs and Services, Dr. Monalie C. Saylo, Institutional Head, Principal of LHS, Fernando C. Corvera, Sr., Council Chairman, together with Mr. Montilla and other scouts from the Boy Scout of the Philippines (BSP) Antique Council were also present during the ceremony.
