2 Kasubays join AFC 2023

Two Kasubays participated in the 17th ASEAN Food Conference (AFC) 2023 with the theme “Future of Food In ASEAN: What’s Next?” at Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo, Malaysia, October 24-27.

Danica Marie B. Aposaga, Product Standardization Officer and Jessebel V. Gadot, Director of Integrated Research Centers and Lab Officer of Centralized Analytical Testing Laboratory (CATL), presented two poster presentations on “Effect of Different Processing Conditions on the Total Phenolic Content and Free Radical Scavenging Activity of Three Cultivars of Watermelon Peels and Rinds” and “Proximate Nutrient Composition of Waste Watermelon,” and gave an oral presentation on “Microbiological Assessment of Three Watermelon Varieties Under Different Processing Conditions.”

According to CATL, the three presentations were data collected from the recently finished DOST-PCIEERD-funded project under the Regional Research Institute (RRI) led by Danica Marie B. Aposaga, with Prof. Gadot, and Jemaica S. Labus entitled “Characterization and Utilization of Red and Yellow-Fleshed Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) as Value-Additive and Food Preservative for Pork Longganisa.”

AFC 2023 was joined by 600 foodies and food scientists from 20 countries./IU
